Project Statement

Some of the most impactful aspects of conversation are the ones in which a single word isn’t spoken. A glance. A feeling. This is especially the case when the conversation seemingly takes place all in one’s mind. When having to make a decision, navigating our daily routine, or examining one’s feelings about oneself in any given moment, etc., we’ve all experienced moments of inner dialogue. It’s a common experience that we all share, and it regularly shows up but in different ways based on our unique personalities and experiences.

Whether it’s an inner voice of doubt or a voice of encouragement, times when we are feeling indifference, or even when experiencing moments that seem to leave us speechless, we experience inner dialogue. It can be both a help and/or a hindrance depending on the circumstance, and just as in any conversation, spoken words may not be necessary for communication to take place.

This subject is particularly meaningful because many of us aren’t fully aware of the power of our words (specifically the ones we express to ourselves) or the power of self-perception. This is also especially important because of how much inner dialogue plays a role in determining the trajectory of certain situations and how we show up in our own lives.

This project depicts how inner dialogue shows up in my life and includes two additional versions of myself in different scenarios to represent my subconscious.
